Royal Ascot is annual series of horse races held at he Ascot Racecourse over 5 days in early summer, culminating in the Ascot Gold Cup. It is widely considered the centerpiece of the British summer social calendar and has been an institution in Britain since 1711. The Gold Cup was iintroduced in 1807. Per the Ascot web site:
