The Indianapolis 500 is a annual auto race held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in May, usually over the memorial Day Weekend. It is one of the most prestigious of auto races and is one of what is considered the triple crown of auto racing – the others being The Monaco Grand Prix and the 24 Hours of Le Manz.
It is contested in open-wheel, open-cockpit cars known as Indy Cars and is part of the Indy Car Series of races.
